5 Colon Cancer Warning Signs that You Shouldn't Ignore

Colon Cancer Warning SignsIn this article, I would like to focus on colon cancer warning signs. Colon cancer or cancer of the bowl is a very common cancer that grows and progresses fairly slowly and in-predictable way.
It starts on the inner lining of the bowl wall and then grows deeper into the wall, until it spreads through the wall and lymph nodes in the abdomen.

Cancer of the colon causes signs in several ways. It may affect the bowl habit, it may cause rectal bleeding, or it may block the bowl making it difficult to pass the stool. There are major five colon cancer warning signs that you shouldn't ignore.

1. Blood in the stool

This is one of most common colon cancer warning sign that you will notice at the early stage of colon cancer. Usually that will be seen as red streak of blood on the surface of stool, bleeding is usually caused by the tumor of the colon. Sometimes the amount of blood may be too small to be seen but the test on the stool will definitely show whether the stool contains blood. This test is called occult blood test.

2. Changes in Bowl Habit

This is another possible colon cancer warning sign that you shouldn’t ignore. Changes in bowl habit is not easy to define and consider as a sign of colon cancer. Because bowl habit changes on time to time, depend on the type and amount of food you take. However, a remarkable and prolonged changes, like a changes which prolonged for more than weeks, is a possible colon cancer sign. Sometimes, after defecation you may feel your bowl doesn’t empty completely. Nowadays, it is possible to do the colon cancer test at home using Cologuard. If you find any signs it is advisable to see the doctor as soon as possible.

3. Colicky Pain and abdominal swelling

Colicky pain and abdominal swelling are among the colon cancer warning signs that you have at its different stages. Depending on the position, shape and size of the cancer (tumor) it may also cause blockage of the bowl contents and interfere the passing of the bowl contents, causing sever colicky pain on abdomen, and sometimes there may be sudden marked swelling on the abdomen.

4. Loss of Weight

If you are having an unexpected weight loss, that may be a sign of colon cancer. Sometimes if the tumor is large, it interferes the ability of the bowl to absorb nutrients. Your body lacks essential nutrients. This causes loss of weight.

5. Nausea, Vomiting and Constipation

Persistent nausea and vomiting for weeks may be a sign of colon cancer. As we mentioned previously, a large tumor present in the colon may prevent the digestive contents from moving forward and therefore cause back up of food, thereby causing nausea and possible vomiting to occur.

If you are experiencing persistent constipation for more than weeks or chronic constipation, this can be a warning sing of colon cancer. At the beginning of the colon (bowl), waste material is sludgy and can easily maneuver around anything that gets in its way. But as it nears the end of the colon, stool solidifies due to the obstruction caused by the tumor. A tumor in the rectum or far end of the colon can make it very difficult for waste to get by, thereby causing constipation
