Esophageal Cancer: Mostly seen in fifth decade of life

Esophageal cancerEsophageal cancer is the growth of abnormal cells or cancer cells in esophagus. Esophageal carcinoma is the third most common carcinoma of the gastrointestinal tract, there are two type of esophageal carcinoma.
  1. Squamous cell carcinoma
  2. Adenocarcinoma
Mostly esophageal cancer occur among people of age 50 and above. Esophageal carcinoma is more common in china, Iran, Japan, South Africa and Russia

Esophageal cancer causes

  • Smoking
  • Cronic Alcoholism
  • Comsumption of contaminated food: Rice, tea, aflatoxin in food, nitrosamines contaminated beers, and smoked fish have been suggested as predisposing factors of esophageal cancer.
  • Malnutrition
  • Human Papilloma Virus
  • Genetic: mutation of TP53

Esophageal cancer signs and symptoms

  • Chest pain, pressure or burning
  • Worsening indigestion or heartburn
  • Weight loss without trying
  • Coughing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Vomiting
  • Bone pain
  • Heartburn

Esophageal cancer metastasis

  • Direct invasion
  • Submucosal Infiltration
  • Lymphndes: Mediastinum and distal lesions
  • Blood stream: live, lung and brain
